Hindustani vocal classes in Singapore
Learn Hindustani classical singing from the ground up — sur, taal and voice culture first, then raags and bandishes that grow into aalap and taan. Lessons are built around you, with no fixed syllabus, online or in person in Singapore.
What you will learn
Hindustani music rewards patient riyaaz. We build a steady voice first, then open up the world of raag one step at a time.
- Sur and voice cultureFinding your Sa, singing in tune with the tanpura, breath support and kharaj practice for a fuller, steadier voice.
- Alankars and sargamPaltas and alankars that train accuracy and agility, and sargam singing that makes every note feel familiar.
- TaalKeeping time in common taals such as teentaal, ektaal, jhaptaal, rupak, keherwa and dadra, and understanding sam and khali.
- Raag and bandishIntroductory raags such as Yaman, Bhupali, Bhairav and Kafi through chhota khayal bandishes, with the aaroh, avaroh and pakad of each.
- Aalap and taanUnfolding a raag slowly in aalap, then building speed and clarity in taans — the art that makes a performance your own.
Students who love lighter forms can also learn bhajans, ghazals and light-classical songs with the same technique.

Frequently asked questions
I have never sung before. Can I learn Hindustani classical music?
Yes. We start with sur, breath and voice culture, and only introduce raags once you can hold notes comfortably. Many of our adult students begin with no training at all.
Which raags will I learn first?
Most students begin with raags that have a clear, approachable structure, such as Yaman, Bhupali or Bhairav. The exact order depends on your voice and the music you enjoy.
Do you offer Hindustani classes online?
Yes. Live online classes are available for students anywhere, and in-person classes are held at our Costa Rhu studio in Singapore.
Do you prepare students for music exams?
